4 Steps to Writing a Novel in 2 Weeks

Image
I don’t know about you, but I have to plan out every inch of my manuscript. For me, outlining a work in progress is a four-stage process. First, there is the spider outline. Second comes the murder board. Third, comes the Book Bible. Last, but not least, is the chapter outline. These steps help to flesh out the concept, theme, and characters. The spider outline is fairly simple. In the middle I layout the main character and answer a few questions. Who are they? What’s their name? Where do they live?   Do they have a significant other? Then I create those other characters and branch them to the main character. For instance, in my latest book, Onyx, the main character is Raven Sinclair. She has a girlfriend named Grace Trudeau. They live together in a brownstone in Brooklyn, New York. So, I would string together Raven and Grace’s bubbles. I repeat that step with all the characters in the book. The murder board is key when writing a murder mystery or thriller novel. I use a...

Happy Halloween!

This is my favorite time of year. I love it so much hubby and I married seventeen years ago back on October 30 th . We walked the protective circle and jumped the sacred broom. We had a High Priest and High Priestess from Church of the Spiral Oak perform the ritual I wrote up. Our daughters Amber, Tiffeny, and Ambrosia helped open the circle. I was pregnant with our youngest, Danelle. It was wonderful having everyone be part of the ceremony in some way. Long before I met my husband, Halloween was already my favorite holiday. There are so many different days celebrating roughly the same thing. Samhain, the Celtic new year and the day the veil is the thinnest. Halloween itself, or All Hallow’s Eve. Then there is the Day of the Dead and All Saints Day. Not to mention Diwali. Although I didn’t know about India’s Festival of Lights until the last few years. This year I will be celebrating Samhain with by engaging in an online ritual with Athena Perrakis owner and proprietor of SageGoddess ...

NaNoWriMo is Right Around The Corner

With NaNoWriMo starting in fifteen days I have decided to take this opportunity to announce my project titled Onyx . It is set to launch March 21, 2023. The book cover will be unveiled on Halloween. However, if you want to see it now, join Colleen Tews' Reading Group . On top of the book cover there is always a ton of fan sales and insights you won't get anywhere else. Raven Sinclair hated growing up in a Briar Ridge, Ohio (a haven for those who practice the mystical arts) and had moved on to bigger and better things in New York city the minute she graduated high school. Photographer by day, bartender by night. Raven longed for anything, but the simple life. Her career was looking up until the day she was forced to return to her hometown. The day her sister, Onyx, was discovered murdered in the parking lot of the town's local brewery. Once home Raven was informed that her sister's death wasn't the only one. Another girl was murdered, body found dumped in a public pl...

Introduction of an Author

Image
The first idea that comes to mind when starting a blog is: What do I write? Hi. My name is Colleen Tews. I am an author, a mother, a wife, and a progressive. Over the course of the last seven years I have been active in therapy. Mental health is as important as physical. One of the many reasons I write is because it is therapeutic in nature. Although I hate to admit that this is the first piece I’ve written since receiving my breast cancer diagnosis last year. I simply did not have it in me. I’m hoping to change. I do have a handful of books out for you to read. Birth Of A Vixen and the first book in the Dream Prophet Trilogy are available wherever ebooks are sold. These stories are also available in paperback and hardcover via Amazon. Birth Of A Vixen is about a young vampire named Angela Vista and her transformation to powerful creature of substance. She has a destiny to fulfill and is fighting it fang and nail. The Dream Prophet Trilogy takes us into the world of witch...
